INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
This is tailored to the individual. The goals we decide together will determine the duration of therapy. Each session will lead toward the completion of your set goals, which can be clarified and changed along the way. Typically, change is seen within a few sessions, but it often takes 3-6 months to complete the defined goals. An individual can involve their significant other or family occasionally in the session.
COUPLES THERAPY
For couples (married or not) who want to understand and improve their relationship with a fresh perspective. Often it a difference in perception that leads to discord in the relationship dynamics, so these will be explored. A common goal of therapy is to rebuild trust. Much time will be spent learning to show care, concern and love in a manner that the other receives it. There is give and take in any relationship and compromise is essential.
PARENTING
Parenting a child can be difficult and even more so if the child does not respond to traditional techniques. Consulting with a counselor may lead to new insight to understanding the parent-child dynamic while learning new tools to utilize. Change is hard, but worth the effort. When a child is brought to therapy, the parents will be involved in the care. This includes a few minutes of parent therapy without the child to share progress and concerns.
FAMILY THERAPY
Families often come to therapy when all they have tried is not creating the peaceful home environment that they desire. Family sessions are generally utilized in conjuction to individual therapy with one or more members of a family. Family dynamics are explored and demonstrated. Perceptions can be discovered which have been an obstacle to family unity. Learn to understand, not just be understood. Learn to work together to solve issues as they do not fall squarely on one person’s shoulders.
